The 47th Annual Quadrille Ball: The first Quadrille Ball was held in 1961 to raise money for scholarships that would enable qualified American graduate students to obtain a year's graduate study in Germany. In 1964,
The Institute for International Education advised the
Quadrille of the growing need for scholarships for German graduate students wishing to study in the United States. From that time on, the proceeds of the Annual Ball are distributed to The Institute of International Education,
Columbia University,
Julliard, and other institutions of higher learning. The highlight of the Ball is the Quadrille Dance, which is performed by young people of various nationalities.
